Judi Mesman (Keynote)
PRESENTATION: “A culturally inclusive and decolonial perspective on attachment research”
Judi Mesman is dean of Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) and professor of the interdisciplinary study of societal challenges at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Her research takes a social justice approach to the study of child socialization processes, investigating family dynamics in marginalized and underrepresented groups, cultural normativity in parenting, education and youth care, and the intergenerational transmission of prejudice and stereotypes regarding gender and ethnicity. Mesman is involved in several outreach projects, translating her research to the general public and professionals working with children. In addition, she is active in the promotion of equity and decolonization in Dutch academia. She is an elected member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 2021 received the Stevin prize, one of the highest awards in Dutch academia, for her research and related outreach activities.
