Abraham Sagi-Schwartz (Keynote)

Presentation: "Attachment networks to mothers and fathers:  How much do we know and what is still missingin the puzzle?"

Abraham (Avi) Sagi-Schwartz is Professor of Psychology and Child Development, and Founder and Director (emeritus) of the Center for the Study of Child Development. Prof. Sagi-Schwartz main research interests are in the area of attachment and socioemotional development across the life span and across cultures, socioemotional development and adaptation under extreme life circumstances and experiences, especially the effects of the Holocaust as well as other violent political conflicts. Sagi-Schwartz has special interest in transforming basic knowledge generated by child development research to various policies and interventions that may advance the well-being of children across the world, including under-resourced countries. His work has been supported by major research grants including NICHD, the Ford Foundation, Israel Academy of Science, USA-Israel Bi-National Science Foundation (BSF), Israeli Chief Scientist Offices of Education and Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Israel), the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF), the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), and the Bernard Van Leer Foundation (the Netherlands). His published work includes many contributions to edited volumes and articles in leading journals of psychology, early childhood, psychiatry, pediatrics, social work, family, law, and human development. Also, between 2006-2016, he was Associate Editor of Early Childhood Research Quarterly. He is the recipient of the 2007 Society for Research in Child Development Award for Distinguished International Contributions to Child Development, the 2015 Bowlby-Ainsworth Founder Award for attachment research by The New York Attachment Consortium, the 2021 Michigan Social Work Centennial Distinguished Alumni Award, University of Michigan, and the 2022 International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development (ISSBD) Distinguished Scientific Award for the Applications of Behavioral Theory and Research.
